The Sunday evening of April 28,1985 at a little after 9:00 PM a screaming a 7 lb. 3 oz little girl came into the world. As the nurse bundled her up and put her into my arms, her screaming stopped and her head nestled onto my shoulder. Every emotion joy, fear, anxiety, uncertainty filled my being, but one thing became certain to me, my life was no longer mine, I was a Father.
Now that I was a Father, I stayed and watched that little girl until 4:00 AM and the whole while thinking what was I going to do? I was blessed since I had a Father that showed by example. My Father did whatever he had to provide. At his funeral I was compelled to honor my Fathers life by telling everyone the lessons that he gave. My Father showed his two sons how to love their families and how to work to take care of them. His wife, his sons and his granddaughters were the most important people on earth to him.
Being a Father is more than being a sperm donor. A Father is the most important job that I have and will continue to have. The fact that my daughter's birth is a moment in time that stays with me and if I want to place a huge smile on my face , I simply close my eyes and go back to that moment and my heart is filled with all that joy.
